In 2007 when I visited Suzhou I got the distinct impression that non-Asians didn't visit often as I didn't see any others during my entire ~12 hour visit. Some people were happy to see me, some were curious and some seemed to really hate my presence (like this bike driver). In fact, I had to walk a lot as most taxis refused to give me a ride.
